Long Beach Pride will stage its first opening ceremony on May 16, adding a new centerpiece to the city’s 43rd annual Pride weekend at Marina Green Park.
The inaugural show will trace LGBTQ+ musical history from disco to 1990s house, with Thelma Houston, Robyn S and Thea Austin leading the lineup.
The festival runs noon to 10 p.m. on May 16-17 with three entertainment stages, drag shows, DJs, dancing and more than 150 arts and crafts vendors.
Sunday’s parade starts at 10 a.m. on Ocean Boulevard at Lindero Avenue, with about 100 organizations expected to join floats, marches and displays.
The expanded weekend also includes a free Teen Pride event on May 15 and the 34th annual Pride Run on May 17, underscoring Long Beach Pride’s broad community focus.
Festival canceled over safety, but the parade proceeds. What really happened at Long Beach Pride?
Was a permit dispute the true reason for the cancellation, or was the Pride organization already collapsing?
