General Catalyst posted a parody "VC vs GC" video on X that racked up 2.4 million views, casting a bald, disheveled "VC" widely read as a jab at Andreessen Horowitz co-founder Marc Andreessen.
The skit mocked a16z as willing to back almost anything: the VC character pitches "Woof AI" and gets rejected by GC, which says it has a "high bar around responsibility" before the fake AI dog chases the investor offscreen.
Marc Andreessen responded repeatedly on X, calling the ad "smarmy" and joking that a16z should run its own campaign: "We're the VC who doesn't sneer at your idea."
The exchange drew support from a16z partners and staffers and split commenters between calling the post cringe and praising it as effective rage-bait marketing.
The spat taps a broader venture-capital rivalry over controversial bets, though both firms have backed polarizing companies, undercutting GC's implied contrast.
