Southampton Crown Court heard Henry Nowak was handcuffed by police after being stabbed multiple times, because officers were told he had racially abused and attacked Vikrum Digwa before collapsing and dying moments later.
Digwa, 23, allegedly stabbed the first-year University of Southampton student during a late-night encounter in December 2023; prosecutors say officers arrested Nowak first and only then began first aid when he lost consciousness.
Digwa denies murder and says he acted in self-defence, while his mother Kiran Kaur denies assisting an offender after allegedly hiding the knife.
Earlier evidence said Nowak suffered four stab wounds from a 21cm knife after a verbal confrontation in Southampton; the trial is continuing.
