Six mosquito-control products anchor NBC Select’s new guide, spanning larva-killing dunks, electric repellents, bug zappers, indoor adhesive traps, body balm and citronella candles.
Standing water is the main driver of home mosquito problems, experts Shannon Sked of Orkin and Gil Bloom of Standard Pest Management said, noting mosquitoes can breed in as little as a bottle cap of water.
Mosquito dunks were highlighted as a top preventive tool because each dunk works for at least 30 days and covers up to 100 square feet in water sources such as bird baths, ponds and flower pots.
Other recommendations split by use case: Thermacell’s rechargeable repeller claims 20-foot protection outdoors, while Zevo’s plug-in UV trap targets indoor mosquitoes and other flying pests.
The guide’s broader message is prevention first—drain water, trim overgrown landscaping and use EPA-registered repellents or traps, with essential-oil scents framed as less effective supplements.
