Social Circle Sues Feds to Halt 10,000-Detainee Center Over Environmental Review

Social Circle filed suit in federal court Wednesday seeking to stop ICE and DHS from converting a local warehouse into a detention complex for up to 10,000 migrants.
The complaint says the agencies bought the site in February and moved ahead without required environmental review, violating the National Environmental Policy Act, the Administrative Procedure Act and Georgia nuisance law.
Town officials say the project would add about 2,500 workers and effectively triple the population of the 5,000-resident community, overwhelming water, sewer and public services.
The warehouse at 1365 East Hightower Trail is part of a broader federal push to acquire detention sites nationwide, though local opposition has already derailed some planned sales in Virginia and Missouri.
