$1.25 million bond was set Friday for Dalton Levi Eatherly, 28, after prosecutors charged him with attempted criminal homicide and three other felonies in Wednesday's shooting outside the Montgomery County Courthouse.
An arrest warrant says Eatherly reached for a gun in his jacket after a verbal confrontation with Joshua Fox, triggering a struggle during which Eatherly fired multiple shots and hit Fox several times.
Surveillance footage cited in the warrant showed a ricocheting round striking nearby walls while bystanders were in the courthouse courtyard; Eatherly was also shot in the arm during the fight.
Judge H. Reid Poland III said the attempted homicide charge carries a potential 15-to-60-year sentence, while the firearm count could bring a mandatory six years at 100% service.
A May 21 bond hearing and May 26 preliminary hearing are next, with prosecutors noting Eatherly was already out on bond in two other cases when the shooting happened.
