Philip Ovadia said 11 common processed carbohydrates — including white bread, bagels, pasta and fruit juice — should be cut immediately because they are sending patients into heart surgery.
Across more than 3,000 operations, Ovadia said he repeatedly sees soft, inflammatory plaque and hardened calcified blockages linked to insulin resistance, chronic high blood sugar, inflammation and visceral fat.
He argued refined carbs, not red meat, saturated fat or salt, are the bigger culprit because they repeatedly spike blood sugar and insulin, creating the conditions for plaque rupture and artery blockage.
Ovadia urged replacing packaged carbs with whole foods such as vegetables, animal proteins and natural fats; surgeons Jeremy London and NHS doctor Chris van Tulleken also warned heavily processed foods damage health.
