Pixel Phones Add AI Missed-Call Transcription on Pixel 6 and Newer in 5 English-Speaking Markets

  • Pixel phones from the Pixel 6 onward can use Google’s AI-powered Take a Message feature to record and transcribe missed or declined calls directly on the device.
  • Real-time transcription lets users see a caller’s message as it is being left and answer mid-message, while completed recordings and transcripts are saved in call history with a notification summary.
  • The feature is available on Pixel phones and Pixel Watch 2, but only in the U.S., U.K., Australia, Ireland and Canada, and it requires the phone to be on and connected to cellular service.
  • If signal is unavailable or the device is off, regular carrier voicemail takes over, making Take a Message closest to a private, on-device alternative to visual voicemail rather than a full replacement.
