Lifetime’s “Faith & Forgiveness,” premiering May 16 at 8 p.m., dramatizes Al and Lisa Robertson’s account of an affair 15 years into their marriage and their eventual reconciliation.
Lisa Robertson said childhood sexual abuse at age 7, years of dishonesty and isolation while Al served as a pastor helped drive her into a relationship with an old boyfriend in 1999.
Cellphone records led Al Robertson to confirm the affair, and the couple briefly separated before Lisa said a backyard prayer, baptism, counseling and faith-based support marked her turning point.
Al Robertson said his own earlier infidelity and Lisa’s visible repentance changed his mind about ending the marriage, leading the couple to renew their vows in December 1999.
The Robertsons say they are telling the story now to show other couples that honesty, counseling and faith can help restore a marriage after betrayal.
