Explosions began around 02:00 at the Ryazan oil refinery, one of Russia’s largest, and videos showed a large fire with thick smoke over the site.
Governor Pavel Malkov said the drone attack also damaged several residential buildings and a business property, adding that early reports indicated people were affected.
Strikes or explosions were also reported in Bryansk, Taganrog and Yeysk, where smoke was seen rising from an air base that hosts the 859th Naval Aviation training center.
Flight operations were disrupted across central Russia, with airports in Nizhny Novgorod, Yaroslavl and Tambov briefly halting traffic and Moscow’s Vnukovo operating under restrictions.
