Singapore-based Sea and OpenAI are starting the first regional Codex Hackathon Series in Asia, with the program launching in Singapore before expanding to Indonesia, Taiwan and Vietnam.
87% of Sea’s Codex users are weekly active users, and 73% of developers who rated the tool 4 or 5 out of 5 said they would recommend it to colleagues.
Sea said it is deploying Codex across its developer organization because the tool helps engineers navigate large codebases, debug faster and shift effort from syntax work to system design and product innovation.
AI agents are already being used in Sea’s CI/CD pipelines to propose test-driven implementations, surface edge cases and accelerate debugging, which the company says also helps reduce technical debt.
Sea framed the hackathon push as a way to widen access to AI coding tools in Southeast Asia, betting the region’s complex, multilingual markets can become a proving ground for AI-native software development.
