Rapaport used video of postgame fights outside Madison Square Garden after the Knicks’ Game 3 loss to attack Mayor Zohran Mamdani and declare, “Rapaport 2029.”
The actor said the street disorder showed failed city leadership and later told NewsNation he would run for mayor unless a stronger challenger emerges to beat Mamdani in 2029.
City Hall pushed back through spokesperson Sam Raski, saying assaults on police officers and other violence were unacceptable even as most Knicks fans celebrated safely.
The clash extends Rapaport’s broader campaign against Mamdani, whom he has repeatedly criticized since the first-term mayor took office in January, including over February snow cleanup.
