Summary
Lima ranked No. 1 in Time Out’s 2026 global food-city list, ahead of Bangkok and Mexico City, with London fourth and Barcelona fifth.
More than 24,000 residents across 150 cities and 100-plus editors and local experts shaped the ranking, which weighted local sentiment 70% and expert opinion 30%.
Four European cities made the top 10: London scored strongly on variety despite only 42% calling it affordable, while Barcelona won praise for a revival of traditional Catalan cooking.
Athens placed ninth with locals and experts rating it almost evenly, and Lisbon took 10th as 86% of residents praised its food scene and 63% said eating out was affordable.
Time Out said 2026’s standout trend runs from Lima to Lisbon: cities are reworking classic dishes and drawing diners to neighborhood-led formats such as neo-tavernas and neo-tascas.
