Summary
A 62-year-old man was killed when a BMW X3 exploded around 5:30 a.m. on Koldunova Street in Balashikha, about 10 kilometers from Moscow.
Russian investigators said a device placed under the driver's seat detonated with an estimated force of 300-400 grams of TNT equivalent, causing fatal multiple injuries and prompting a criminal case.
The blast hit Balashikha's Aviatorov district, a neighborhood built for Russian military personnel, retirees, veterans and service members' families on the site of a former base.
Less than 1 kilometer away, Lt. Gen. Yaroslav Moskalik was killed in a similar car bombing in April 2025; Kyiv had not commented on the latest explosion, and no evidence has yet linked Ukraine to it.
