James Fishback Vows to Close 53 Florida Abortion Clinics, Replace Them With Crisis Centers

53 Florida abortion clinics would be shut and converted into crisis pregnancy centers under James Fishback's plan if he wins the 2026 Republican gubernatorial primary.
Fishback said the replacement centers would provide free ultrasounds, diapers, baby food, counseling, and prenatal and postpartum care, framing the proposal as an expansion of Gov. Ron DeSantis' anti-abortion record.
The pledge follows Fishback's recent statements that abortion is "murder" and would be prosecuted as such; Guttmacher Institute data showed 49 Florida clinics were providing abortions as of December 2025, down from 53 in March 2024.
The proposal lands in a crowded GOP race ahead of the Aug. 18 primary, where President Donald Trump has endorsed U.S. Rep. Byron Donalds and other Republicans including Jay Collins and Paul Renner are also running.
