Pastor Corey Brooks Ends 191-Day U.S. Walk After 2 Heel Surgeries

Day 191 ended Corey Brooks’ cross-country walk after doctors said a recurring pyogenic granuloma on his heel made continuing too risky.
Two surgeries failed to stop the painful growth from returning, and Brooks said pressing on toward Los Angeles could have caused profound damage to his foot.
The walk began in New York City on Sept. 1, 2025, and was meant to raise money for Project H.O.O.D.’s Leadership and Economic Opportunity Center on Chicago’s South Side.
Brooks said the campaign has raised just over $4 million so far, still well short of its $25 million target for the 90,000-square-foot center.
He framed the halted walk as a setback, not the end of the effort, urging supporters to keep funding a project focused on job training, counseling and schooling for local youth.
