Apple CarPlay Adds Video Playback in iOS 27 as Google Pushes Similar In-Car Feature

Summary
iOS 27 will let CarPlay users browse and watch videos directly on a car’s infotainment screen, but only when the vehicle is stationary.
Movement will automatically switch playback to audio-only, and the feature will work only if both apps and the car itself support video sharing.
Apple has not published a compatibility list; a developer beta is available now, a public beta arrives next month, and the wider rollout is expected in September.
The change follows Google’s move to add video playback to Android Auto and expands CarPlay beyond the earlier AirPlay workaround that mirrored phone video to the car display.
CarPlay in iOS 27 also gains an in-app audio mini-player, better wireless reliability, improved GPS and navigation heading, audio scrubbing, and Siri AI on iPhone 15 Pro or newer.
