He has also criticized some adaptation changes, feeding concern that the show is condensing major events while also altering them. Reports that season three will cover several major book beats in just eight episodes reinforce that worry. So the four-season end date is probably meant to prevent the kind of late-stage drift and abrupt ending that damaged *Game of Thrones*. Yet avoiding one mistake does not automatically solve another. If the final two seasons move too quickly through the war’s biggest turns, the show could still end up feeling rushed—just in a more planned, less chaotic way.
