Emergency crews were called to Swanholme Lakes in Lincoln at about 14:30 BST on Sunday after a 15-year-old boy was reported in difficulty in the water and then went missing.
Lincolnshire Police said the boy had not been located despite efforts by people at the lake and responding emergency services, with an underwater search team now assisting the operation.
Police said the family has been informed and urged the public not to speculate, stressing the teenager remains missing despite reports to the contrary.
