Two Garden Grove residents filed a class action complaint against GKN Aerospace, seeking damages for evacuation costs, property harm, displacement and loss of use of their homes after the chemical emergency.
A pressurized tank holding 6,000 to 7,000 gallons of methyl methacrylate overheated Thursday and began emitting vapors, prompting authorities to evacuate roughly 50,000 people over leak and explosion risks.
Orange County fire officials said Saturday the tank’s internal temperature rose to 90 degrees from 77 a day earlier, increasing by about 1 degree an hour as crews continued monitoring the vessel.
GKN Aerospace said it was working around the clock with the fire authority, EPA, OSHA and other agencies to prevent a leak, apologized for the disruption and said safe resolution remains the priority.
