King said HBO terminated her third-year contract option for “Euphoria” Season 3, then later called her back after filming had begun to shoot material for two episodes in one day.
Episode 6 ultimately showed Leslie Bennett for only a single line on a phone call with Rue, prompting King to post an Instagram video of her mother joking about the blink-and-you-miss-it return.
King said the reduced role was especially striking because Leslie had been central to grounding Rue’s addiction story, even as Season 3 shifted toward cartels, DEA pressure and other external threats.
A viral stand-up bit during the three-year hiatus about not paying rent drew attention to her status as a working actor, though King said the joke was misconstrued as literal.
King, now teaching acting and helping run her mother’s Fort Lauderdale vegan restaurant, said she still hopes to return to dramatic roles on the level of Leslie.
