Maria Martínez Bayona said her first feature, “The End Of It,” centers on a 250-year-old artist who chooses death in a near-future world where aging is cured and dying is optional.
Bayona traced the idea to an existential crisis sparked by reading that the first person to live to 150 may already have been born, pushing her to imagine how extreme longevity would reshape relationships and society.
Rebecca Hall leads an ensemble that also includes Gael Garcia Bernal, Noomi Rapace and Beanie Feldstein, with Bayona crediting a well-received script and casting directors Ellen Chenoweth and Susanne Scheel for landing the lineup.
The film was produced by Elation Pictures, Fasten Films and Eye Eye Pictures, developed with BBC Film and iFeatures support, while Bankside Films handles international sales outside Latin America and WME Independent represents North America.
