Thom Tillis, a retiring North Carolina Republican, said Trump’s decisions are “killing our chances” in November and called adviser Stephen Miller a problem who should be removed.
The latest clash erupted after Trump labeled Tillis a “nitpicker” and “quitter” on Truth Social, saying he had told the senator he would not back another run.
Tillis tied his criticism to several administration moves, centering on a nearly $1.8 billion DOJ “anti-weaponization” fund that he and other Senate Republicans fear could compensate some Jan. 6 rioters convicted of assaulting police.
That fund already helped derail Congress’ effort to finance immigration operations for the rest of Trump’s term, underscoring broader unease inside the Senate GOP over personnel, Pentagon firings and Ukraine policy.
The White House rejected Tillis’ attack, saying Trump remains the party’s best messenger and is focused on preserving Republican control of Congress.
