Demolition has begun inside Universal Orlando’s Lost Continent at Islands of Adventure, with helicopter footage showing an excavator beside rubble as the land enters a phased shutdown.
Universal said venues and experiences in the 1999-themed area will close over coming months to make way for a new themed land; Mythos Restaurant is slated to stay open until 2027.
The overhaul caps a long retreat for the once-signature land: Dueling Dragons was re-themed in 2010 and closed in 2017, Sinbad ended in 2018, and Poseidon’s Fury shut in 2023.
The project fits a broader expansion push across the resort, which is also reworking the Horror Make-Up Show and plans to open the Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift coaster in 2027.
Fan reaction was split between visitors who said the aging area needed renewal and others mourning what they called the end of an era.
