World number 68 Solana Sierra knocked out Emma Raducanu 6-0 7-6 (7-4), closing the match in 1 hour 45 minutes after surviving a second-set comeback.
A 25-minute opening set set the tone: Raducanu produced 15 unforced errors and no winners, with her lack of clay-court preparation quickly exposed.
Raducanu had played only one clay match before Roland Garros and said a post-viral illness had already disrupted her season, keeping her off the WTA Tour for more than two months after Indian Wells.
The Briton briefly rallied from 4-1 down and twice forced Sierra to delay serving out the match, but her resistance faded in the tie-break.
The loss sends Raducanu on to the British grass-court swing, while Sierra advances to face either 13th seed Jasmine Paolini or Dayana Yastremska.
