Caitlin Clark took the grand marshal role at the 110th Indianapolis 500 on Sunday, appearing on the red carpet and giving the call for drivers to head to their cars.
Indianapolis Motor Speedway said the Indiana Fever star was chosen through its Gainbridge partnership after fans had pushed to see Clark become part of race-day festivities.
Clark called the assignment an honor and joined past celebrity grand marshals including Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez and Blake Shelton.
The appearance extended a busy week for Clark, who returned from a minor injury absence to post 22 points and nine assists in Indiana's 90-82 win over the Golden State Valkyries.
Her role added star power to pre-race ceremonies at the world's largest single-day spectator sporting event, where driver introductions and other festivities had already drawn large crowds.
