55% of the vote sent Ed Gallrein past Thomas Massie in Kentucky’s Republican primary, ending the incumbent’s run in the costliest U.S. House primary on record.
Massie tied his defeat to repeated breaks with Donald Trump on Iran, federal spending and the Epstein files, saying those fights were "completely worth it."
Trump had made the race a personal test of loyalty, recruiting Gallrein, campaigning in Kentucky and branding Massie a "moron," "loser" and "disloyal."
Massie warned the purge could hurt Republicans in November, arguing Trump has alienated anti-war voters, fiscal hawks and "Make America healthy again" supporters as control of Congress hangs in the balance.
