AB Hernandez won all three jumps at Saturday’s CIF Southern Section Masters Meet in Moorpark, taking long jump at 20-0.75, triple jump at 40-7 and high jump at 5-8 to reach state.
Those results send the Jurupa Valley senior to next weekend’s California state championships in Clovis, where Hernandez returns after winning the 2025 state titles in high jump and triple jump.
CIF again applied its podium-sharing rule for transgender athletes in later rounds, requiring Hernandez to share first-place podium spots with the next-highest female finisher.
The meet also renewed criticism from some parents and officials over competitive fairness, while California continues to allow participation by gender identity despite a Trump executive order threatening funding losses.
