Graham Platner said he would not apologize to Maine voters or Purple Heart recipient Pfc. Teddy Daniels over a deleted 2019 Reddit post that said Daniels “didn’t deserve to live.”
Asked outside a market near his home, the Democratic Senate candidate defended himself by citing his four infantry tours and wounded friends, calling claims he disrespects veterans “slanderous and offensive.”
The resurfaced post mocked Daniels’ 2012 combat video from Afghanistan, where he was shot four times; veterans including Rob O’Neill condemned the remarks as “completely barbaric,” and Daniels called Platner a coward.
Platner had earlier apologized broadly for offensive online posts and linked them to PTSD, but this latest controversy hits as he enters Maine’s June 9 Democratic primary as the presumptive nominee after Janet Mills exited.
