At least 14 people were killed after a bomb exploded near a passenger shuttle train around 8 a.m. Sunday near a railway crossing in Balochistan, close to the Afghan border.
The blast derailed the locomotive and at least three coaches, with two carriages overturning, as the train headed toward Quetta carrying dozens of passengers, including some from a nearby military base.
Officials said preliminary findings point to a possible suicide attacker, though a bomb disposal squad had not issued a final assessment.
The train was carrying travelers, many likely heading to see family before Eid al-Adha, and was due to connect with the 1,000-mile Jaffer Express route linking Quetta to Pakistan's major cities.
The attack adds to renewed violence in separatist-hit Balochistan, where militant groups have intensified assaults in recent years.
