$1,500 Vivo X300 Ultra is judged the stronger overall flagship, beating Sony’s expected $1,600 Xperia 1 VIII on display, camera hardware, battery capacity and charging speed.
Both phones use Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, but Vivo pairs it with up to 16GB RAM, UFS 4.1 storage, a 6.82-inch 144Hz 1440p panel and 100W wired charging versus Sony’s 30W.
Camera specs drive much of the gap: Vivo offers a 200MP + 200MP + 50MP rear setup, 50MP autofocus selfie camera and 8K video, while Sony focuses on creator tools like continuous telephoto focus and Alpha integration.
Sony still stands out for niche flagship features—microSD expansion, a 3.5mm headphone jack, bypass charging and four major Android upgrades—aimed at creators rather than hardware-max buyers.
Because Xperia 1 VIII is only expected to launch in June 2026, some of Sony’s specifications, features and pricing could still change before release.
Can 200MP smartphone cameras and AI finally dethrone professional cameras, or is it pure marketing?
