A stray cat in Burrillville tested positive for rabies on May 22 after biting a man two days earlier near Whipple Road, Rhode Island health officials said.
The cat was found under a homeowner's deck, and the person bitten has already begun rabies treatment.
RIDOH urged anyone else who had direct contact with the cat to call its Center for Acute Infectious Disease Epidemiology at 401-222-2577.
